About us

Mango & Friends is inspired by our beloved daughter Mango Omar. Born in London in 2012, Mango was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy right after she was born, which was a complete surprise to us. Although she had a difficult start in life, Mango continues to inspire her family and everyone that came across her journey. She taught us love, compassion and tolerance.

Mango & Friends were born after a visit to Somalia and witnessing first hand the struggle of families with disabled kids in a country where the health and welfare system is not organised. Our campaign had began in 2015 and since then we successfully helped many disabled kids and their family, although the charity was officially registered in early 2020.

In many parts of the under developed world, social care is non existant, as a result many disabled children are deprived from basic necessities that we take for granted, such as food, clean water, education and suitable place to call home. The combination of poverty and the negative beliefs about their conditions, disabled kids are pushed to the edges of society and being forgotten for prolonged suffering and neglect. Research show children with disabilities in Somalia have been found to be subject to various forms of verbal, physical and sexual abuse.

Our charity hopes to advocate to the rights of the disabled children in Somalia while improving their livelihood.

Services

The goal of the organisation is to support and help children with physical and psychological disabilities in Somalia by setting up a centres to improve their basic human rights, bring awareness to the local community about disability, and create a safe environment to play and receive one to one care.

The charity hopes to promote the active and informed participation of parents with children who have special needs in the hopes of shaping and influencing public policies that affect their families and communities.

We hope to shatter the bounds of inequality, community stigmas and empower every child with a special need to live his/her life with dignity and unconditional love in an inclusive society.
